About Couture KIT

This affordable mix and match collection provides you with the freedom to design your own unique wedding dress.

The concept was dreamt up by British couture wedding dress designer Caroline Arthur, www.carolinearthur.com, and enables you to create your own “Designer Look” without the designer price tag.

Explore the possibilities by choosing from the bodices and skirts shown, which you can order in any combination, customised to bring your vision to life, and individually handmade for you, here in Britain.

All can be made as separates or as a dress, in your choice of colour, silk, satin or crepe, with or without a lace or sheer over-layer. There are some stunning accessories, including sparkle and crystal beaded appliqué, or you could design your own. Feel free to contact us with your ideas. We're based in Surrey, but currently expanding, so hope to be able to offer convenient venues around the UK for you to come and see us.

How It Works

Once you've discovered your perfect wedding dress design using the app, click on the “Email the design team for a quote” to send it to us. We'll reply with all the details you need to decide if you'd like to make an appointment to come and try on some samples and look at fabric options – this is where the fun really starts! Bring whoever you like to your appointment, you're welcome to take photos, and by trying on the samples as separate tops and skirts (which we have in a vast range of sizes, so everyone welcome)... you can explore different combinations of bodice / strap / sleeve / skirt styles until you find the perfect and most flattering design for you. Together, we'll draw up a sketch for you to take with you, and following this appointment, we'll send you a booking form with details of how to book and how fittings work. Should you reach a decision to have your gown made for you, we request the booking form to be completed with your deposit, and the remainder to be settled on collection of the dress, when you are 100% happy. Contact us with any queries or concerns you may have about the process.

Customise your gown

Usually, Brides-to-Be who contact us, include their ideas for customising their gown, as there may be specific elements which aren't shown as options on the app– it doesn't mean we can't do them, just that they're probably what makes your design totally unique to you. There are also more styles available, different overlays in lace or sheer gathered chiffon, not shown on the app due to space constraints, but you can try them on when you visit. Just send us the closest design you can create with the app, along with a description or pics of the tweaks and additions you'd ideally like to make, and we'll try and accommodate whatever your dream may be. It's a good idea to include your ideal budget in your email, as we always aim to suggest options that fit with this. Do send us your Pinterest board or any images of features that you'd like to incorporate in your design.

Your fastening and the back of your dress

The back of the dress is so important... low backs, lace-covered styles, keyhole designs....all gorgeous. One of the up-coming developments for the app will allow you to rotate the mannequin so you can see how the back would look, and customise or change it as you wish. In the meantime, when you send your enquiry, do put a note, or pics to explain your ideal for the back of your dress, and we can explore how best to incorporate this into your design.

All fastenings are zips, which are included in the price quoted, with the option to order buttons or lacing separately. Sometimes there are limitations regarding the engineering of your design that might affect the options for the back of your wedding dress, but we can show you these in person when you come and try on some samples. Do get in touch if you'd like to make an appointment.

Fittings, Measuring & Alterations

To keep things simple, your design is made in your choice of fabric in the standard size closest to your measurements, and then it can be altered to fit perfectly. We never profit from your alterations on principle, and suggest you visit an experienced and professional seamstress local to you, for these to be completed. We can usually help with recommendations for this. Our designs are created with a view that most Brides-to-Be need to have some alterations in order for the fit to be perfect, and if the dressmaker has any queries, we're always on hand to help. If you should experience weight change in the run up to the wedding (intentionally or not), your dressmaker can adjust the dress to fit you beautifully, and you can discuss with her directly.

EXCITING NEWS: Caroline is currently developing a unique digital bespoke pattern system which aims to remove or dramatically reduce the need for alterations, by customising the pattern for your individual gown. We can explain how this works when you come to be measured.

Appointments are available in weekday evenings and weekends -we always try to make it as convenient as possible for you, the Bride, so just let us know if you have any queries or concerns.
